Visual Cultures - Photography

One day as I waited for my dinner, I listened to the forks on the table teaching me a lesson about tolerance and respect for the other. I learnt that being different doesn’t mean being an enemy, that confrontation results in damage, and that communication is victory and freedom!

I enjoy taking in the visual contrast and contradictions in my culture, where ultra-modern monuments stand right next to architectural treasures of the past, producing a most unusual skyline, and a unique visual experience.

Can you imagine trying to understand a culture without taking a closer look at its people? I can’t stop noticing the small details of human interaction when I draw or take pictures. I think Muslims need to always remember they’re the living image of Islam and to live with that in mind. Above all, it’s the strong connection and compassion that draws my attention again and again.

Sahar El Nadi

Muslim women are a fascinating topic for me … not only as the focus of so much controversy nowadays, but also for the exceptional strength of character and purpose they acquire while learning to tread the difficult roads of our modern world, it’s quite a task to make a positive difference while retaining their identity. In this photo collection, I imagined a mini story of 3 little Muslim girls from 3 corners of the world: The Middle East, Europe, and America, turning into successful Muslim women 20 years from today.
