Learn With Us

As salaam alaykom and welcome to the Learn With Us section of Zero-Net. You’ll find some creative lesson plans here that are both educational and fun.

The purpose of these lesson plans is to assist teachers in educating their students about Islam and for Muslim parents to teach their children at home. The lessons are a resource to supplement the study of Islam and are not meant as a stand-alone curriculum. They are based on a multiple intelligences approach to learning and incorporate visual arts, music, drama, cooking and games into instruction to reach children of all learning styles.

For teachers that are currently teaching students about Islam in a non-Muslim environment: please know that what you are doing is so important in breaking down religious and cultural barriers. It is not an easy job, especially if you are not very familiar with Islam. Here are some tips that can facilitate instruction:

  • Go into teaching Islam with an open mind and a clear slate. We all have previous experiences that have shaped our views on a wide array of issues, but our students deserve to form their own opinions based upon unbiased fact.

  • If you do no know something about Islam, it is perfectly acceptable to admit that to your students. It is far better to tell them “I’m not sure, but let’s find the answer together” or “How about you research that and fill us in tomorrow” than making up a false explanation. Your students will respect you for this because it helps them see that no one knows everything and that we are all learning together!

  • Know where to go to get balanced and accurate information. If you are not able to discern between various sources (and it is very hard because of plethora out there) the Zero-Net team is here to help you with any questions and concerns you may have. In addition, there are a number of websites with reputable Islamic information that you can look at right now, such as www.islamonline.net, www.islamicity.com, and www.islamfortoday.com

  • Most importantly, relax have fun! These lessons are intended to make learning exciting and enjoyable!

  • We’ll be happy to publish pictures of you and your class or your family while learning from our lesson plans, please refer to the Connect with Zero-net section for details of how to contact the Zero-netters.
